Where we Ride

Grey Mountain

We will bike straight from our yurts and immediately hit fun Whitehorse singletrack. The Grey Mountain trail network is right at our doorstep! Overlooking Whitehorse and beyond, our local mountain is a recreational hot spot for Whitehorse residents. The mountain biking trails swoop up and down, weaving through the boreal forest. They vary between wide, flatter beginner trails to extreme and technical singletrack and everything in between. Spectacular views of the Whitehorse valley and the coastal mountains near Carcross accompany us throughout the ride. Any technical climbs are immediately rewarded with awesome downhills. Expect to pedal, laugh, and have the adrenalin pump! This is what world class singletrack mountain biking is supposed to be like.

Yukon River

The Yukon River is a highlight of any trip to Whitehorse. A deep bright green colour, it seems almost unreal. A guest last year was heard describing it as “It really is the same colour as the pictures on their website!” Today’s ride will be a longer one, as we maneuver our way through the trails to the follow the Yukon River as it flows to back to town. You will be amazed at the beauty of this river, and at how fun the ride is! We will bike past the historical former town site of Canyon City, where stampeders stopped and created a makeshift canvas tent city while they pondered how to cross the rapids without losing all their gear! These same rapids were said to look like the manes of white horses, which is how our capital city received its name. Although the Yukon River current is amazingly fast, today the white horses have been reined in and now the route is quite passable. 100% singletrack the entire way. we will cover alot of territory and will finish at the shore of Schwatka Lake.

Montana Mountain - Lower Trails

We will drive to the nearby village of Carcross to ride the underground secret that is Montana Mountain. This mountain has recently undergone a transformation from a silver mining hot spot in bygone years to a current mountain biking paradise! Funded through the local Carcross Tagish First Nation, the Singletrack for Success program hired local youth to create mountain biking trails for the betterment of the community. Set in some of Canada’s most beautiful scenery, these trails snake their way down the mountain and finish at the edge of Bennett Lake. Professionally built and maintained, the structures, flow and quality of the trails makes for an awesome day of riding. You will be amazed at how wicked the rides are and that you are all by yourself, riding this gem! Expect about a 30 minute shuttle up for a one hour descent.

Montana Mountain - Mountain Hero Trail

We will drive to the nearby village of Carcross. This is an epic alpine day with ridiculous mountain views! Montana Mountain has a rich and varied history for silver mining. The Yukon has repeatedly attracted colourful characters, most of which seeking their instant riches in some very harebrained manners! We will follow the old 1910 road from the village of Carcross, up to the alpine. While this day will require a constant pedal up the hill, it will be the scenery will leave you breathless. This is truly where the caribou roam, among the mountain peaks with their glistening glaciers. While pedaling you will be struck with the awesome vastness of nature that is the Yukon. After a brief lunch at the summit, we will admire the old wooden mining relics before we descend down the Mountain Hero trail. Those Mountain Hero mine workers in the early 1900 sure knew how to make a killer mountain bike trail! This trail follows the tram line that the mine created to get supplies up and down the mountain. A very rewarding downhill will have your braking fingers aching and have you giggling once we reconvene at the side of Windy Arm Lake.
